The top four runners in men’s 1500 meters T13 at the Rio Paralympics beat the Olympic champion’s winning time on September 11. Abdellatif Baka of Algeria won gold in a time of 3:48.29, faster than gold medalist Matthew Centrowitz’s winning time of 3:50.00 in last month’s Olympics. Although some pointed out the pace in the Olympics was deliberately slow because of Centrowitz’s strategy, it was still not easy for the four Paralympians to out-run him. “I’ve been working one or two years non-stop and it’s been very, very hard for me,” Baka said after the contest. The T13 race is exactly the same as the Olympic race, except for the fact that the runners are visually impaired.
